How to improve battery life on your Android phone with this simple hack

No matter what smartphone manufacturers may claim, battery life is always going to be an issue for us

A good habit to get into is optimising your phone to the way you live your life.

Not so fussed about social media? Delete Facebook and free up battery life that way – many apps will run discretely in the background and suck up precious juice.

But if you’re an Android user, then there’s another easy way to squeeze more life out of your phone – whether it’s made by Samsung, Huawei, Gionee or Tecno

According to a Reddit post, all you need to do is disable the ‘always-on mobile data’ setting.

After all, if you’re sat at your desk or mooching about at home and connected to a strong, stable WiFi network – why do you need mobile data enabled?

According to the post, shared by a user called ‘neq’ disabling this feature will double your screen on time (SoT). That’s slightly different from battery life as it refers to the amount of time your screen is specifically in use.

Chances are, this’ll drastically improve the battery life on your Android phone.

How to disable always-on mobile data

First step is to put your phone into developer mode, which gives you access to more of the inner workings of the device than you would usually have.

You find this in the Settings menu under System. Scroll down until you see About phone and tap it. Then, scroll down to Build number and keep tapping it. After a certain number of taps, the phone will enter into developer mode.

Navigate back to the System menu and open up the newly-appeared Developer options sub-menu. Scroll down to the Networking category and you’ll find the option for ‘Mobile data always active’.

Click the slider to off (so it’s greyed out) and phone will now stop using mobile data when it’s connected to WiFi.
